Ahoy! Happy hot and sweaty mid-July in the city!
Summation is going strong, working on our next piece and fundraising to self-produce two performances this year. If you are reading this blog, and you haven’t donated to our upcoming projects yet, please consider doing so today by clicking here! (Just had to get that in while I had the chance… Fundraising is a 24/7 job, whether for BAM or Summation, and I’m always ready to give the 2 minute elevator pitch!)
Starting a company really does mean that you work around the clock. Sumi and I are literally ALWAYS thinking about Summation, be it the choreography, events, performances, press releases, classes, auditions, blogs, website updates, grants or rehearsal space, it’s always circling around up there, which is why I have really come to depend on vacation to clear my mind and turn off my cell phone, or even better, go somewhere that it doesn’t work!
I’ve been lucky to get away quite a bit in 2011 and most recently went to California over the 4th of July weekend! Some friends and I went up the coast north of San Francisco on Highway 1, which is absolutely beautiful, though quite curvy, so not for the weak stomached.
The first day we hiked in Salt Point State Park and camped at Ocean Cove campsite, which had the incredible view featured above. The highlight of the trip, however, was canoeing, paddle boarding, and kayaking down the Russian River, and yes, I was aboard all three vessels at different points during the day usually with more than the recommended amount of passengers. After a day in the sun, we headed back toward San Francisco and spent the night at a beautiful house on top of a hill in Marin and slept outside underneath the stars! Good thing I left my constellation book at home, or I would have been up all night… 🙂
Now that this trip is over, I have to start planning the next one! Any destination recommendations? These are the countries on my to do list: Argentina, Costa Rica, Guatemala, Turkey, Israel, India, Thailand, Laos, Vietnam, and Bali. Let me know where you want to go and I will plan! 🙂
